I did consult with the Senior master tech at my dealer and he said this is how he would do a flush, but mostly just does drain and fills. The service interval is 150k, iirc but I couldn't wait that long. I flushed at 90k, and my truck has been towing pretty much since day 5 it left the lot so the fluid was a little dark, not burnt. Obviously I'm some dude on the internet, and you do so at your own risk. The shops use a transmission cleaner during a flush and cycle the old fluid through for 10 minutes or so also, I put a can of SeaFoam HydraTrans tune in and drove a few days prior. It took me a lot of drive cycles to get the fluid up to temp, add a little (pint at a time), drive, check, add, repeat. Add Lubeguard flush and drive a maximum of 5 minutes. Get transmission to operating temperature. ![]() 6.5 at first, start the truck then add the rest. That's pretty much it, I ran 4+gallons of fluid through, hook the line back up and check for leaks. Change the inline filter (and o ring) and the bypass filter (baldwin). It will come out in a steady stream, be on your toes.Ħ As soon as you're done, shut off the engine, don't let it run while the line is off unless you are pouring fluid in. Pour fluid down the funnel the ENTIRE time wile looking over your shoulder at the bucket, watch for the color to change. Each gear should engage for a few seconds. See for fuel economy of other engine/transmission. Fetch your lovely assistant.ĥ Have everything ready at arms reach, Lovely assistant starts the truck and SLOWLY shifts through all gears at idle, foot on the brake. You need a special line remover for this, got mine at advance.Ģ Heavy duty 1/2 ID vinyl tubing and a hose clamp from the hot line to a 5 gallon bucket, secure tubing to bucket with a spring clamp or zip tie to the handleģ Another section of the same tubing stuck into the filler neck and then to a long neck funnel, bungied to the hood up highĤ Block, chock, and set the parking brake. Put it on the floor with the heat cranked to nursing home, sealed bottles in a hot water bath or such like.ġ Feel the lines at the cooler and pull off the hot line, engine off. To do it in the driveway first it needs to be at operating temp (>180*F) and get the fluid as warm as you can. Plus last time I had it done a line popped off mid flush and sprayed no less than 1 gallon of ATF on my hot running motor, that was a GMC so whatever. The local shops wanted $100 to do it with the non heated recirculating machine, that's if I brought my own fluid. ![]() So I did mine in the driveway after I found out my dealers machine is just two long tubes that go down the dipstick, one sucks and one blows.
